Make it Happen for Yourself!

January 6, 2018

Happy New Year Trend(ers)! Hope everyone had a joyous and wonderful holiday season!  This is my first blog post of the new year.  Gosh, I cannot believe it is the year 2018.  I can remember being younger thinking this would be the year of "The Jetsons." Boy, was I wrong! But, guess what this year is, not just the year of many possibilities and new beginnings, yet this is the year to "Make It Happen!" This post is not going to be my typical post about all things fashion, yet a post of self reflection and motivation.

Have you ever been in a place where you feel like you aren't quite where you thought you would be, or ask the question "How did I get here?." If you have not, I know I have. For the longest time now, I have been trying to figure out what career option is best fit for me. After graduating with a Bachelors in Chemistry, I thought I had it all figured out, I'll be a scientist and that's it.  It was not until after attending and during graduate school that I realized, while I adore science, as it makes the world make sense, that chemistry was not what I wanted to pursue for the rest of my life. Nevertheless, the Doctoral degree I went to pursue, I decided to opt out, because of a decision of my own, as well as, a  decision that was out of my control, and left with a masters. I say this proudly, I did not just leave with a masters in Computational Chemistry, I WORKED for that degree, every last bit of it and wouldn't have it any other way. From there one of my main reasons of leaving with a masters, was to figure out what I wanted to do, who I wanted to be and where I wanted to go.  Answer that question of "What makes you tick?"

Before leaving Auburn University (War Eagle to all you SEC Football Fans), I landed an opportunity with a startup company in Atlanta, my hometown, as a Functional Software Consultant.  I know what you're thinking, this is something totally different than Chemistry, as it was, but it was something new and interesting, being the opportunist that I am, I decided to pursue it.  This was the first step of trying to figure out myself outside of science.  That is all I knew for seven to eight years and enjoyed every opportunity, so of course I was apprehensive, although curious. Taking the job in Atlanta, it was a uphill battle, with many ups and downs, questioning my decision of leaving graduate school, taking the job, and other things in between.  During this time, I did a lot of soul searching and listened to several motivational videos on YouTube to place me in a better headspace. If you do not listen to Evan Carmichael or Super Soul Sunday on YouTube, please start as they are wonderful ways to encourage, motivate, enlighten, free your mind, and embrace the inner you. By the way Podcast are awesome as well, take advantage.

It wasn't until a self reflection moment, which I still do by the way, where I jotted down the top five things that I think about everyday, and you could only imagine what the top thing was, Fashion. I've always had a love for Fashion, since a little girl I thought I would either design dresses, or at least become a writer of a famous fashion magazine. Since forever, I've juggled between being left or right brained, often times I feel like the right brain takes over, yet science was my life for the longest.  Maybe I'm equally both. I love to be creative, constantly coming up with things to create - "With Hearts in Mind - Charity Initiative," "What's Good on the Menu - A Foodie Experience Series," to name a few.  Amongst my thoughts and eagerness to find my niche, I decided to create a website about the number one thing I adore, Fashion. Hence why 924 B. Trendy was born. At first I thought it would be just an avenue to blog, as I started a blog in the past, an epic fail, but you have to start somewhere, rather I turned the blog into a business.  Ultimately, not only do I want convey the top styles, trends, etc. through verbiage, I want people to feel great in clothing and be excited about clothes the way I am. Hence the motto - "Clothes are what we wear everyday, so why not look good wearing them." - Brittany Boykin. I want my clients to exude confidence, love, and feel good in what they're wearing. Creating this website was the start of learning what makes me tick.  From here I decided to engulf myself in the fashion industry, any way possible, volunteering, blogging, promoting, etc. to make just once a thought a reality.  While on this journey of self, I realized fashion was or is my niche, and summed it down to ultimately figuring out that one position I aspire to obtain - Editorial Stylist.  It will happen one day and this is the year where I will become closer to my dream job.  Speak it in to existence! When I say I am TRYING to make it happen, I've turned from Scientist to Consultant to now Style Advisor and I would love to make this a forever reality and bless people with my creativity, style, looks, and much more.

I told this long story to say, this is the day I mark on the calendar (01/05/2018) to "Make it Happen for Yourself" Day, as what ever you choose to be, do, go, have; make it happen for yourself.  If you hate your current job, get another one, if you want to loose weight, loose it, if you want to travel the world, go see it, if you want to find love, go find it, if you want to do something you've never tried before, try it, and the biggest of them all is, if you want something to happen for yourself, get FEAR out of the way, and take the bull by the horns and MAKE IT HAPPEN! Regardless, of what your faith is, God may not always be there when you need him, but he is always on time. And this I know, so the time is now, so do something, anything, pick up the pen and paper, and make it happen for yourself.  You'll thank me later. It all started with a pen, pad, and my thoughts.  Guess what you can do it too. Shoot, I'm still doing it. We can do it together.
